Conferences

Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies organizes a regular, biennial conference circulating in the Nordic region.

Our latest, the 14th conference of the Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies, titled “Creativity – Complexity – Intelligence“ took place in Tallinn, Estonia, 2025, along with the 15th Annual Lotman Days. The conference was hosted by Tallinn University School of Humanities and Juri Lotman Semiotics Repository.

The 13th conference of the Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies, titled “Feeling – Skill – Knowledge”, took place in Helsinki, Finland, in 2023. You can find more information here.

The 12th conference of the Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies, “Meaning in Perception and the Senses” was held in Vilnius, Lithuania, in 2021. See the conference page here.

The 11th conference of the Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies, titled “Anticipation and Change ” took place in Stavanger, Norway, June 13-15, 2019. More information is available here.

NASS X took place at Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania, in 2017, along with the 13th World Congress of Semiotics titled ”Cross-Inter-Multi-Trans-”.

NASS IX took place in Tartu, Estonia, in 2015, with the theme “Semiotic (un-)predictability”. The call for papers is archived here.

The Eight Conference of the Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies was arranged in Aarhus, Denmark, 2013, and was titled “Sign evolution on multiple time scales”.

NASS 25 year anniversary symposium took place in Imatra, Finland in June 2012.

The Seventh Conference of the Nordic Association for Semiotic Studies, convened by longtime NASS president Göran Sonesson, was arranged in Lund, Sweden, in 2011.
